Frequently Asked Questions

General Service Common Questions

How shall I prepare before you arrive?

We recommend that you vacuum your carpets before we arrive. Make sure that everything has been picked up from the floor, such as toys, coins, pins, etc. Also, please remove all breakables such as photo frames, statues, lamps, etc.

How long does it take to complete the carpet cleaning service?

It normally takes between an hour to two hours but that depends on the square footage of your house.

How long does it take to dry?

Drying time depends on the thickness of your carpet, its condition and the ventilation available in your house. It takes about 4 to 6 hours for the carpet to dry. However, with our “Quick Dry” process, the drying time might be reduced by as much as 50%.

What kind of solutions or chemicals do you use?

We use the latest, top-of-the-line products that are safe even for people with allergies. Proper professional carpet and upholstery cleaning will remove soil and contaminates which improves the quality of indoor air and reduces allergens. We offer organic carpet cleaning services.

How shall I treat stains?

The first thing we recommend is that you scoop up the solids or anything that can be lifted. Then use a safe over-the-counter spray or powder, wait a few minutes, then blot the area with a towel without smudging the spot. It’s a good idea to read the instructions on the product first before use. Also, make sure that the product will not discolor the fabrics of your carpet.

If the stain is pet urine that you cannot handle, then you should call professional carpet cleaning. Pet urine doesn’t really dry so it becomes a feeding ground for bacteria. That causes strong foul odor, staining and discoloration of the carpet. Minor pet accidents can be treated with germicidal and enzymatic cleaner. Major conditions usually require professionally treating the carpet, and in worse cases, pad replacement and floor treatment.

Do you move furniture?

This is on a case by case basis but for the most part we will move sofas, tables and chairs. We do not move beds, dressers, china cabinets, pianos or electronics. You should move any breakables things from the carpet.

How often should I have my carpet professionally cleaned?

It depends on how much activity you have in your home and how much traffic your carpet gets. Usually the carpet nearest to the front door is the one that gets the most traffic. We recommend professionally carpet cleaning should be done every 6 to 12 months.

Kitchen Hood Cleaning Common Questions

How often should my kitchen exhaust hood get cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 96 Standard requires your kitchen exhaust system be professionally cleaned between once per month and once per year depending on the volume of food cooked, the type of food served, and the type of fuel used. We have customers that fall into all of these categories.

What is a Hinge Kit and why do I need one?

Hinge kits are required on all upblast fans according to NFPA 96 Code 8.1.1.1. A hinge kit is very similar to a door hinge, and it allows an upblast fan (pictured) to fold open safely and easily so that technicians can clean the underside of the fan and the duct work beneath the fan. Without a hinge kit, technicians must completely detach the fan from the duct for each service and set it on the roof. This can cause a number of problems including:

  • Bent base plate of the fan or the duct work, which can cause gaps that allow grease to leak onto the roof and damage the roof or allow precipitation into the duct work and even into the kitchen. A loose connection between the fan base plate and ductwork can also cause the fan to rattle, making noise and reducing the life of the fan.
  • Damaged fan wiring, due to stretching when removing the fan from the duct work and placing it on the roof.
  • Damaged roof and/or leaks, due to placing the fan on the roof repeatedly for cleaning and maintenance.
How long will it take to clean my kitchen exhaust system?

Most of our cleanings at typical restaurants take between 4-6 hours for thorough cleaning by our trained technicians. Service length depends on a couple of factors, including the number of hoods, fans and ducts. It also depends on the type of food cooked.

Does an employee need to be on site during the Kitchen Exhaust Hood cleaning?

We have a key to most of our Kitchen Hood customers’ businesses. A few of our customers use this as time to do other deep cleaning or special projects overnight.

How do you come up with the price for Kitchen Exhaust Hoods?

Pricing is dependent on many factors including; how many hoods, size of hoods, number of exhaust fans, length of duct work, number of access panels and other factors.

What is the Hoods365 sticker that we leave behind?

The Hoods365 sticker certifies that your equipment was cleaned by a company that adheres to NFPA 96 standard cleaning procedures. This includes the company name, contact information, date of last service, and date of next scheduled service. This easily allows a fire marshal, local code enforcement agency, or insurance company to quickly assess whether the hood is in compliance with NFPA 96 when they are inspecting a facility. It also serves as a helpful reminder for facility staff who may not know the last time the system was serviced.

What quality control practices are in place? Will I get pictures?

Steam Pro/Hoods365 uses a state of the art image system that tags each image with location, time and technician. We have a minimum number of images required for each job including the exhaust fan, sticker, hood, filters and more. We also have GPS tracking on all of our vehicles that confirms arrival and departure times. Our Director of Hoods365 is in charge of our quality control. They conduct hands-on training as well as weekly quality checks.
